Sanju Samson exposes Rajasthan Royals star’s indiscipline: "Match is at 8 PM, he wakes up at 5 PM"

Rajasthan Royals skipper Sanju Samson reveals how teammate Shimron Hetmyer used to wake up just hours before the evening contest during the competition and then just walk in and win matches for the team.

Sanju Samson has emerged as the hot topic of Indian cricket over the last month due to his trade links with Chennai Super Kings, who have shown a probable interest in the IPL veteran to strengthen their batting order as well as relieve MS Dhoni of keeping duties.

However, appearing on the Ravichandran Ashwin show, ‘Kutti Stories with Ash,’ he made several massive revelations, with one of them being about a team member from the Royals setup.

Sanju Samson reveals his training regime until captaincy

In the interaction with Ashwin, Sanju Samson revealed his routines before he was the captain of the Rajasthan Royals.

“Before I was a captain, I was a player; at that time, it was only about my ways. I’m like I need to do these things, these kinds of practices. I need to score runs at these kind of patterns, and that is how success is made.”

“Then I suddenly met someone like Shimron Hetmyer, we all know him very nicely. I used to sleep at like 10 or 12, wake up in the morning, train with my trainer and all those things,” Samson said in an interview with R Ashwin.

Samson reveals RR star’s pre-match regime changed his perspective

Sanju Samson dropped a massive revelation on his RR teammate Shimron Hetmyer and highlighted his antics during the Indian Premier League campaign. Hetmyer has been a part of the Royals setup since 2022, and Sanju has been foreseeing him as the skipper of the side.

He recalled how the Caribbean cricketer had this casual approach of getting up late in the evening during match days and then just walking in to win games for the team. Shimron Hetmyer has been noted for his negligent attitude in international cricket as well, since he was dropped from the national squad once, as he missed the flight ahead of the T20 World Cup 2022.

Samson recalled that Hetmyer used to be ignorant and drowsy during team meetings; however, he didn’t question his attitude, as he could deliver despite his unconventional methods and lack of discipline.

“But this guy, the match is at 8 PM, he will wake up at 5 PM, and be all sleepy during team meetings and all. Then he will score the most important runs for the team and win them the game. So, there is a way to do like that also,” he added.

“There is no one way of succeeding in cricket.” – Sanju Samson credits leadership for change in perspective

Sanju Samson was appointed as the RR skipper under some tough conditions, as the Royals had failed to qualify for a single final after their win in the inaugural season of 2008. Samson was leading the Royals in 2021, but could not produce anything special until he led the Royals to the final of IPL 2022 and ended the season as the runners-up.

Amid these, he revealed how captaincy has brought a huge change in his vision and has had a huge impact on his career.

“Captaincy has opened up my perspective and helped me to accept these kind of ways. There is no one way of succeeding in cricket. I don’t believe that there is only one way. When people are trying different things, I like to back them instead of questioning them,” Samson said.
