The Sacramento Kings are now exploring whether they can trade De’Aaron Fox before the deadline.
In a breaking news report provided by Shams Charania of ESPN on January 28, the Sacramento Kings are expected to show willingness in discussing a trade around their franchise guard ahead of the February 6 trade deadline.
This report stems from De’Aaron Fox’s continued reluctance to hammer a long-term commitment with the franchise — a notion that further intensified when he previously dropped cryptic comments regarding his future in Sacramento.
According to Charania, there are several teams expected to be in the mix for Fox.
Yet despite this, there’s been a belief that he has preferred destinations in mind for his next stop after Sacramento.
Upon the news, the Los Angeles Lakers were mentioned by some of the fans that could at least pursue the star guard, considering the ties of LeBron James and Anthony Davis with agent Rich Paul.
But Charania immediately turned down this idea in his appearance on NBA Today.
“With agent Rich Paul, we know, he’s got LeBron James and Anthony Davis on the Lakers,” Charania said.
“But I’m told the Lakers are not part of that destination of choice for De’Aaron Fox potentially.
“But he is now potentially entering the NBA’s trade market.”
It is quite intriguing how things have suddenly turned upside down for the Kings regarding Fox.
As it is, the Kings are already playing their best basketball at this stage of the season. Upon the dismissal of Mike Brown — a franchise move that stirred controversy around the league — interim head coach Doug Christie has propelled Fox and Sacramento to dramatic resurgence.
From being 13-19 at the end of December, Christie has ushered the Kings to 24-22 by winning 11 of its past 14 games — now occupying a Play-In spot as the 10th seed.
With nine days left before the deadline, it’s interesting how the Kings would work their way on finding the best package possible for Fox and perhaps prepare a rebuild stage, with their lead guard set to be out.
Fox, 27, is averaging 25.2 points, 6.2 assists, and 5.0 boards this season.
