Shams Charania gets real on Joel Embiid’s claims of knowing the Philadelphia 76ers locker room leak, ‘I’d be…’

Shams Charania has opened up on the Philadelphia 76ers’ locker room leak situation that Joel Embiid recently addressed.

The 2023 MVP in his recent interview with ESPN opened up on his NBA career and how difficult it has been for him to manage all the injuries.

He also gave his opinion on the locker room leak in the Philadelphia 76ers and stated it would be difficult to function in such an environment.

Joel Embiid claimed that he was aware of the player who had leaked the locker room information, but renowned NBA Insider Shams Charania has something to say about it.

Charania has been breaking news in the NBA for a while and recently switched to lead broadcaster ESPN after spending several years with The Athletic.

His reporting has been called out several times, but Charania is one of the best in the business.

On ESPN’s latest episode of The Sports Reporters, the 31-year-old shed some light on Embiid’s claims of knowing the locker room leak.

He said: “There was a story this past season, Tyrese Maxey essentially calling out Joel Embiid in a team’s players-only meeting for being tardy and needing to show more accountability.

“I wouldn’t say I received backlash for that story, but I received a lot of, ‘Who gave you that? How did you hear that? Who is your source?’ and to me, those are the best stories is when no one knows who the source is, but they’re just throwing guesses and it’s always 99% wrong.”

“I saw a quote Joel Embiid actually said like, ‘I know who the source is,’ I know who my main source was, I’d be stunned if he knows that.”

Embiid played only 19 games for the 76ers last season due to his injury. He was shut down early as the team wanted him to complete rehab throughout the offseason and be back in time for next season.

However, with the 2025-26 season still two months away, the return date for the former MVP remains unknown.

A Philadelphia journalist stated Embiid was aware of his career approaching its end, but for a player who is still only 31, he has a lot of basketball left to play.

Udonis Haslem revealed that Embiid was his pick as the best center in the league over Nikola Jokic when fit, but being healthy has been a problem for the 76ers player.

Season Games Played
2024-25 19
2023-24 39
2022-23 66
2021-22 68
2020-21 51

In his nine NBA seasons, Embiid has never surpassed the 70-game mark. Even in his most dominant years, his body has never been at 100% entering the playoffs, which is why Embiid is yet to even play in a Conference Finals.

Going into next season, Embiid will be hoping to be back to his usual best once he returns to the court.

The 76ers have some great young talent and now with another two-way player in VJ Edgecombe, their roster just about has enough to compete.
