Shams Charania reveals what he is hearing about Julius Randle and Anthony Edwards in training camp

Julius Randle was not scheduled to play in preseason for the Minnesota Timberwolves against the Philadelphia 76ers as he works through a shoulder injury.

Randle was acquired by the Timberwolves as part of the Karl-Anthony Towns trade, and there is real excitement to see how he gels with the team.

A little patience is required as he is not expected to make his first appearance for the Timberwolves until next week.

In the meantime, Randle has been getting to know his teammates behind the scenes.

ESPN’s new insider Shams Charania has given an update on what he is hearing about how Julius Randle, and how he is adjusting to a new partnership with blossoming superstar Anthony Edwards.

He says he is only hearing positives, with Randle making encouraging steps towards full health.

Charania said: “I love checking on how these training camps are going, how players are interacting with each other. And what I’ve heard is, yes, Julius Randle has been going hard. He’s been playing. He’s been practicing, doing bits and pieces, more every single day.

“But the biggest thing that I checked in on is, what has that dynamic been between Julius Randle and Anthony Edwards and everything I hear, I spoke to a few people today, they’ve been hitting it off behind the scenes.

“And I think how competitive, and we know the spirit that Julius Randle has, from a competitiveness perspective… the Timberwolves really believe [he] is bringining a uniqueness when it comes to that competitive fire.

“And that’s obviously something that’s going to play really well with Anthony Edwards those two have hit it off already in training camp.”

Julius Randle was part of a New York Knicks team which made the play-offs in 2023/24, and while he was a lesser part of the Towns trade, he still has a lot to offer.

Randle averaged 24 points per game last season, also averaging 9.2 rebounds and 5 assists.

He is a solid player to add into a team with the sensational Anthony Edwards, and most importantly, if they hit it off, their chemistry could galvanise the Timberwolves for 2024/25.

Sham Charania’s comments are positive. It is very early days, and the pair are yet to play together, but we can’t blame Timberwolves fans for having high hopes.
