Steve Kerr gives verdict on Dennis Schroder debut performance in Golden State Warriors horror loss

Dennis Schroder’s Golden State Warriors debut was spoiled by the Memphis Grizzlies.

After acquiring Dennis Schroder in a trade with the Brooklyn Nets, many expected the Golden State Warriors to magically become better overnight.

However, the Memphis Grizzlies gave the Dubs a brutal reality check in their most recent regular-season matchup.

The Warriors had no answer for the Grizzlies as they suffered a 51-point defeat. Schroder, alongside many other players, struggled in the game.

Schroder’s Warriors debut was far from what the Dub Nation expected as head coach Steve Kerr addressed the veteran guard’s performance in the postgame conference.

“Dennis [Schroder] looked like a guy on a new team. It’s always difficult to get traded midseason and play with a brand new group and have different terminology and all that stuff,” coach Kerr said after the loss.

In the nightmarish defeat, Schroder contributed 5 points, 2 rebounds, and 4 assists in 22 minutes of playing time.

The former Brooklyn Nets guard had a forgettable shooting night after going 2-of-12 from the field.

Still, he was better than the likes of Stephen Curry and Draymond Green, who registered 0 field goals against the Grizzlies.

In a game where the Warriors failed to cross the 100-point mark, fans may think that Curry had a decent performance. But that’s far from the truth.

Curry had an even worse game than Schroder. Coach Kerr explained what went wrong for the 4x NBA champion.

“Look, they did a great job on Steph [Curry]. Denying him everywhere, making his every catch difficult,” Kerr said.

It’s rare to see a player of Curry’s caliber struggle to score. In fact, it was only the seventh time in his NBA career that Steph failed to make even a single field goal.

While Schroder had an excuse as it was his first game in a Dubs jersey, Curry’s performance was simply unacceptable.

The Warriors are now 14-12 this season after a tremendous 12-3 start. They play the Minnesota Timberwolves next on Dec. 21, 2024.
