The Golden State Warriors have continued their poor run of form following a recent defeat to the Los Angeles Clippers and coach Steve Kerr has jumped to defend one player’s performances.
The Warriors lost 102-92 to the Clippers, and they have now won just once in their last seven games.
As a result of the defeat they now languish in 10th spot in the Western Conference with a record of 15-15, to add insult to injury Steph Curry recently explained how ‘the end is near’ for his career.
With Jimmy Butler’s trade interest and the signing of Brooklyn Nets Dennis Schroder, it has been clear that the Warriors want to try to win another championship for Curry and Draymond Green.
However, Schroder’s arrival has yet to make a real impact and his numbers have dropped dramatically since the trade.
Coach Kerr has defended his latest acquisition’s slow start pointing to a ‘small sample size.’
German star Schroder was dropping some serious numbers in a surprising Nets team, this caught the attention of a Warriors side looking to add firepower alongside Curry.
Upon his arrival, Schroder explained how he would look to impact the game on ‘both ends’, something which he is struggling to complete so far.
He scored just seven points with one rebound and five assists in the latest defeat to the Clippers causing Kerr to once again defend his new star.
Kerr had already defended Schroder’s debut performance which saw him contribute five points, two rebounds, and four assists in 22 minutes of playing time.
Following his latest court struggle the Warriors coach once again came out to protect Schroder telling the media: “It’s always difficult to go to a new team in the middle of the season and not know your teammates very well, he’s basically still in training camp.
“It’s just going to take some time but you trust who the player has been for 10-12 years, and you trust that he’ll get comfortable and settle in because it’s a tiny sample size we’re talking about.”
While it takes time to settle in with a new team as Kerr explained, the Warriors acquired Schroder to win now, they will be looking for results and performances quickly.
The side is aware that they have a decreasing championship window with the age of Curry and Green and Schroder was meant to help progress the team towards that goal.
Schroder is playing slightly fewer minutes in the Warriors team than with the Nets but he still averages over 26 minutes per game, the numbers just don’t meet the mark.
Dennis Schroder 2024/25 | Brooklyn Nets | Golden State Warriors |
Points | 18.4 | 8.2 |
Rebounds | 3.0 | 1.4 |
Assists | 6.6 | 4.2 |
It is important to note that Schroder has played just five games so far with the Warriors and coach Kerr explained how the team’s poor form has not helped their new star.
He said: “He’s come to us at a point where we’ve been ice-cold and he needs shooters around him.”
The Warriors will be hoping to get Schroder and the team back to their best when they face a fellow struggling Phoenix Suns side.
