Steve Kerr says one aspect of Warriors trading away Jordan Poole still confuses him, he feels for fans

Golden State Warriors head coach Steve Kerr has called for the NBA to make a change.

In the NBA there are two different strategies for teams to build. On one side teams aggressively try to create instant success by making trades, often for superstars.

The alternate method is for teams to stockpile future draft picks and gradually build by collecting young talent. The Oklahoma City Thunder’s recent success is the perfect example of this patience paying off.

Conducting these trades is not always straightforward as there can be variables involved, with conditions attached to future draft picks.

The Golden State Warriors traded away Jordan Poole in 2023, acquiring Chris Paul in exchange.

The Washington Wizards received Patrick Baldwin Jr, Jordan Poole, Ryan Rollins, a 2027 second-round pick, and a 2030 first-round pick (top 20 protected).

But the conditions of the final pick cause some annoyance for Steve Kerr, who had trouble remembering the final details, in a discussion on the Tom Tolbert Show.

Kerr explained: “We have a trade, with the Jordan Poole Chris Paul trade, we gave Washington a pick that’s like, protected 21, but then it’s like, so they get it if it’s like 22 to 30.

“But then, if it’s not 22 to 30, something else happens.

“Like, I’m so confused by all these swaps trades, it’s like, I don’t know how fans can follow it if I can’t follow. So I’d like to get rid of that.”

Jordan Poole was a breakout star during the Golden State Warriors 2022 title win, before disaster struck.

Poole was involved in a physical altercation with teammate Draymond Green, where the veteran punched him in the face.

The two players continue to take jibes at one another, showing why there was no way for the Warriors to keep the team together.

Yet the Warriors have failed to reach even the NBA Western Conference Finals since, with Jalen Rose recently calling out the trade decision, claiming it is ‘killing the franchise’.
