According to the Guardian, Sunderland have reached an agreement over personal terms with the representatives of Reinildo Mandava, as the Mozambique left-back leaves Atletico Madrid as a free agent. Reinildo will earn around £65,000 per week on a two-year contract at the Stadium of Light.
Reinildo was not always a regular starter under Diego Simeone, and he chose not to renew his contract in the Spanish capital past the FIFA Club World Cup. The 31-year-old made a total of 103 appearances in all competitions over three and a half years at the Wanda Metropolitano, with two goals and one assist to his name.
Reinildo’s arrival at Sunderland is a part of their plans to strengthen the squad ahead of their return to the Premier League after an eight-year absence from the English top flight. The Black Cats have reportedly agreed a club-record fee of £30million to sign midfielder Habib Diarra from Strasbourg. They’re also believed to be interested in Sassuolo winger Armand Lauriente and exploring the possibility of bringing former Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson back to his boyhood club.
