Thunder’s Holmgren Makes Incredible Playoff History vs. Mavs

Chet Holmgren delivered a historic performance, leading the Oklahoma City Thunder to a crucial 100-96 win over the Dallas Mavericks in Game 4 of their NBA playoff series.

With the series tied at 2-2, Holmgren knew the pressure was on to avoid a 3-1 deficit. “I’m not going to try to downplay at all, that was a lot of pressure to win that game,” he said after the game. “You never want to be in a 3-1 situation. It’s obviously a lot better to be 2-2 going home. To play a three-game series with home-court advantage.”

And Holmgren rose to the occasion, making some incredible history. He became just the fourth NBA rookie to log 120+ points, 60+ rebounds, and 20+ blocks in their first eight postseason games, joining an elite group that includes David Robinson, Alonzo Mourning, and Tim Duncan.

Holmgren’s impact was felt throughout the game, as he played a key role in the Thunder’s comeback from a 14-point deficit. His impressive skills and all-around performance contributed to the team’s winning basketball, helping the Thunder secure the No. 1 seed in the Western Conference.

“Chet was phenomenal tonight,” Thunder coach Mark Daigneault said. “He made plays on both ends of the floor and showed incredible poise for a rookie in a big game.”

The Thunder are the youngest No. 1 seed in NBA history, and this team should be very good for years to come. With a flurry of draft picks and the potential to add win-now pieces via trade, the future looks bright for Oklahoma City. And if Holmgren continues to shine, it won’t be long before he’s making All-Star, All-Defensive, and perhaps even All-NBA teams.

“We’re excited to be heading home,” Holmgren said. “We know our crowd will be electric, and we’re looking forward to feeding off their energy.”
