After a win over the Indiana Pacers to start the weekend, Miami Heat finished it with a defeat to the same opponents.
Miami Heat fell to 5-7 for the season as the wait for Jimmy Butler to return from injury continues. The latest result was a 119-110 loss to the Pacers.
The Heat’s 124-111 win days earlier came in the NBA Cup. This loss was in the Eastern Conference, were the Pacers have a marginally better record now at 6-7.
Myles Turner top-scored for the Pacers with 34 points, with Tyler Herro continuing his impressive form with 28 points.
Speaking to reporters in the locker room after the game, Tyler Herro says Miami entered the game with a specific plan to be strong in two areas, and fell short in both of them.
Herro explained: “They came out with more urgency before the game, and we talked about that before the game.
“The same effort we saw Friday night wasn’t going to be enough tonight, and we saw that pretty much the whole game.”
Indiana came out quicker, leading 28-20 after the first quarter and did not give up their lead.
Asked about the Heat’s efficiency in the paint, Herro said: “We talked about that too, it was a paint game for us, we wanted to protect the paint as much as possible, we didn’t do that.
“We had the game plan and the plan to execute, we didn’t do it. We got to bounce back, we got another opportunity tomorrow.”
This has been a really unconvincing run for Miami Heat over the past month, they have won only two of their last seven games.
The team at least return to home court in the next game, against the struggling Philadelphia 76ers, who could be without Joel Embiid.
But it is worrying that as Herro points out, the team are identifying clear issues to solve, and have been unable to put them right.
