Tyrese Maxey shares his honest views on the Philadelphia 76ers’ 2024-25 NBA season.
It’s confirmed that the Philadelphia 76ers will finish the 2024-25 NBA season as the 13th seed in the Eastern Conference.
For a team that signed Paul George to a massive deal in the summer to pair with Joel Embiid, this is a terrible place to finish.
However, there was hardly anything that the organization could control as their star players were plagued by injuries throughout the season.
Aside from the dynamic duo of George and Embiid, fans expected reigning NBA Most Improved Player, Tyrese Maxey, to establish himself as the third star on the team.
For what it’s worth, Maxey did play well, averaging 26.3 points, 3.3 rebounds, and 6.1 assists per game for the team.
However, similar to George and Embiid, Maxey also caught the injury bug as he will feature in just 52 games this season. Maxey will also miss the 76ers’ final game of the season against the Chicago Bulls.
When asked about his positive takeaway from the 76ers’ disastrous season, Maxey gave a response he knows fans may not like.
“This is going to sound bad but….the only way to go is up,” Maxey said via Austin Krell on Bluesky.
Per Sixers beat writer Adam Aaronson on X, Maxey added: “I think we all need a mental break.”
Fans do not think twice before criticizing the organization during the Embiid era. Sure, the 76ers’ NBA Championship drought is has only increased.
But for what it’s worth, Philly has become a mainstay in the postseason over the better part of the last decade.
In fact, this will be the first time after seven seasons that the 76ers have failed to clinch a playoff berth. Now, will this light a fire under their stars next season? Only time will tell.
