San Antonio Spurs star Victor Wembanyama seems to be on a mission this offseason.
Victor Wembanyama suffered a season-ending injury during the 2024-25 NBA season. It robbed fans of a sensational sophomore season from the former No. 1 overall pick.
However, instead of feeling down, Wembanyama has seemingly locked in to have the best season of his NBA career. For starters, he was seen training with monks.
Following that, Wemby was recently spotted with Boston Celtics legend Kevin Garnett. Fans had a plethora of reactions to Wembanyama training with the former MVP.
During the prime of his career, there were hardly any players better than Garnett. In fact, KG is considered one of the best power forwards to ever grace the hardwood.
Keeping that in mind, former NBA player turned analyst Kendrick Perkins made a major request of Victor Wembanyama via ESPN’s NBA Today.
“I think developing a consistent post game. That picture spoke a thousand words because he actually did work out with Kevin Garnett.
“And Kevin Garnett is somebody he needs to be working with because he was an underrated post player who doesn’t get enough credit for his bag and what he was able to do on the low block,” Perkins said.
Perkins also pointed out that during his career, Garnett mastered the fadeaway shot. It’s an additional skill that the San Antonio Spurs star can learn.
“So when you think about what Wemby could do at 7’5” consistently using that body frame to do those turnarounds… KG was one of those ones. He mastered the fadeaway,” he added.
Over the last two seasons, the Spurs have allowed Wemby to grow. Meanwhile, the Spurs have added and drafted key pieces around him.
Although the Spurs missed out on Kevin Durant, experts believe that San Antonio’s free agent appeal is still at an all-time high. Of course, Wembanyama’s presence is the driving force behind it.
But what about the expectations for the French phenom heading into the 2025-26 season? Well, it’s time for Wembanyama to start competing for an NBA Championship.
The Spurs have proven their intentions by offering a $229 million extension to De’Aaron Fox. That means it’s time for the franchise to get back in the race to lift the Larry O’Brien trophy.
