Warriors Extend Stephen Curry’s Reign: 1-Year, .6M Deal Inked

In the midst of a busy NBA offseason, the Golden State Warriors have secured their most prized asset. Stephen Curry has agreed to a one-year, $62.6 million contract extension, keeping him with the team through the 2026-27 season.

According to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski. The deal adds another year to his existing contract, originally set to expire in two seasons.

Last season, Curry maintained his high level of play, averaging 26.4 points, 5.1 assists, and 4.5 rebounds per game over 74 starts. His performance earned him a spot on the All-NBA and All-Star teams for the 10th time.

However, the Warriors fell short of the playoffs with a 46-36 record, losing in the play-in tournament to the Sacramento Kings. It marked the first time they missed the postseason since the 2020-21 campaign.

Curry, a two-time NBA MVP, was limited to a one-year extension due to the NBA’s over-38 rule, which restricts long-term contracts for players nearing their 38th birthday.

Under the current collective bargaining agreement, players who turn 38 during a contract’s duration are prohibited from signing deals longer than three years to prevent teams from bypassing salary cap regulations.

The 2026-27 season, classified as Curry’s age-38 year, will likely be his final season under this contract. Although he turns 38 on March 14, 2026, the season will be recorded as his age-37 season due to the timing of his birthday late in the regular season.

NBA NEWS & RUMORS: Stephen Curry, Golden State Warriors Updates

This move by the Warriors follows a challenging offseason that saw the departure of longtime star Klay Thompson to the Dallas Mavericks and the decision to waive veteran Chris Paul rather than guarantee him $30 million for the 2024-25 season.

Despite these setbacks, general manager Mike Dunleavy Jr. has worked to rebuild the roster, adding players like Buddy Hield, Kyle Anderson, and De’Anthony Melton, who each bring potential but come with their own uncertainties. Golden State has a lot of internal optimism about the impact of the additions the team has made.

NBA NEWS & RUMORS: Stephen Curry, Golden State Warriors Updates

Securing Curry for another year was a straightforward decision for the Warriors as they seek to rebuild around their franchise cornerstone.

It’s difficult to envision Curry not finishing his career with the Warriors, but he clearly still holds expectations of contending for another championship before he retires.
