As he completed a second run after flicking the ball to fine leg, the phone tumbled out, leaving fans and commentators amused. The 34-year-old seamer, who is on the verge of 400 First-Class wickets, had his mishap caught on camera, and the clip quickly spread across social media.

During the live broadcast, the commentators quickly picked up on the unexpected incident. One remarked, “Something has dropped out of his pocket. I think it’s his mobile phone!” prompting a surprised response from another: “No way!”

One of the commentators further added: “As much as it is hilarious and we are laughing about it, I almost wonder if that’s going to have to be reported. The fact that he was out in the middle .. (chuckles) with a mobile phone in his pocket (more laughs).”

Bailey finished with an unbeaten 22 off 31 balls, as Lancashire posted a total of 450 on day two. Meanwhile, bowler Josh Shaw was seen retrieving the dropped phone, but it’s uncertain if he handed it over to the umpire afterward.

The incident quickly gained attention on social media, with former England seamer Alex Tudor responding with a facepalm emoji to a video posted by ‘No Context County Cricket’ on X (formerly Twitter).

Meanwhile, the King Langley Cricket Club cheekily referenced the moment by tagging the “That’s So Village” account, known for sharing quirky and unusual village cricket moments.

Cleadon Cricket Club made a humorous comment: “He must run their social media accounts because admin has nearly walked out with phone in pocket a few times.”

Former England batsman Ravi Bopara tweeted about batting with his mobile phone in his pocket in 2016, saying, “I can’t believe I just batted with my mobile phone in my left pocket accidentally.”

His former teammate, Owais Shah, joined in the fun, responding with some banter: “Let’s be honest mate… Does it REALLY surprise you!?? What do you reckon, I’m surprised Ravi remembers his bat” and tagged ECB managing director Rob Key.
