Luka Doncic’s long-awaited Los Angeles Lakers debut has been delayed, but head coach JJ Redick has a major update.
The past week or so has been mentally taxing for Los Angeles Lakers and Dallas Mavericks fans. After all, the two teams swapped their superstars in an unexpected trade.
Speaking of the Lakers, they certainly upgraded their roster by parting ways with Anthony Davis for Luka Doncic.
Davis is undoubtedly a top 10 player in the league, but Doncic has a higher ceiling than the Unibrow. On top of that, he is just 25 years old.
Similar to thousands of Mavericks fans, Doncic was initially shocked after finding out about the trade. He did mention feeling better with each passing day.
While the Mavericks fans still cannot digest the news, the Laker Nation is patiently waiting to see their newest star share the court with LeBron James.
Earlier, Doncic was expected to play against the Indiana Pacers, but the possibility was recently ruled out. A key reason behind the rising interest in Doncic’s debut is his potential partnership with James.
Even at 40 years old, James remains a remarkable player and he could extend his NBA career by a couple of years following Luka’s arrival.
Apart from Doncic, newly acquired center from the Charlotte Hornets, Mark Williams was also expected to make his season debut vs. the Pacers.
However, according to head coach JJ Redick, Williams’ debut was postponed due to his trade still being pending.
On the other hand, the rookie head coach also gave his take on when Doncic, James, and Williams will play together.
“I don’t know why we wouldn’t,” Redick said of his players’ return vs. the Utah Jazz.
So there you have it, the dynamic duo of Luka and LeBron is almost confirmed to feature in their first game together on Feb. 10, 2025.
The Lakers will look forward to having Doncic on the roster to make a second-half push to secure a top-three finish in the West.
