What Michael Jordan said about Kawhi Leonard, his comments still ring true in 2025

Michael Jordan made a huge statement about Kawhi Leonard in 2017.

The Los Angeles Clippers have officially secured the No. 5 seed in the Western Conference as they concluded their season with a sensational win over the Golden State Warriors.

Even with the game going to overtime, the Clippers hardly had any trouble in dealing with the Dubs, thanks to the incredible two-way performance by Kawhi Leonard.

Leonard had 33 points, 6 rebounds, and 7 assists to his name. But that wasn’t all, he also contributed on the defensive end of the floor by grabbing 3 steals.

Kawhi has arguably one of the most unique careers in NBA history. On one hand, he is a phenomenal player and 2x NBA champion.

But on the other hand, Leonard’s career has been plagued by injuries and fans know that they may never see the true potential of the Klaw.

Despite these doubts about Leonard, NBA legend Michael Jordan made some interesting comments about the then-San Antonio Spurs star in 2017.

“Can Kawhi score on Kawhi? I assume not. He’s good. He’s probably the best in the game. He’s the best two-way player in the game right now,” MJ said of Kawhi in one of his camps.

Even though Jordan made this claim about Leonard during his time with the Spurs, the Klaw proved they are still true in 2025 following a dominant performance against Dubs.

EVEN THE 🐐 KNOWS KAWHI IS A BEAST!!!

Michael Jordan is asked if “Kawhi can score on Kawhi” during a Q&A with the kids at his camp. Great question. Here’s his response………..

If Leonard had stayed healthy throughout his career, he could have earned a spot in the GOAT debate.

But even with how Leonard’s career has gone down, Clippers’ Norman Powell once compared him to MJ, LeBron James, and Kobe Bryant.

“When [Kawhi] step on the floor, you like ‘We have a chance to go to the top. And that’s how it was, like that. On the first day of training camp, we looked at each other like, ‘We got this year, man.’

“Like we have ‘Why, just the way he moving. It’s just like looking at ‘Bron or Jordan or Kobe on the court. You know what I mean?

“Just the way he was able to read the game and like the stillness he has when he plays. It was like a totally different feel.”

There is no doubt about Kawhi’s basketball acumen. He has already won two NBA titles, but can the Klaw lead the Clippers to their first title in franchise history? That will be clarified in the coming months.
