Stephen Curry is arguably the greatest three-point shooter of all time, but even he can have ice-cold days from deep.
The Golden State Warriors superstar has had an undeniable impact on the rise of three-point shooting in the modern era.
Evidently, Curry has a ton of three-point shooting records to his name. A big reason that separates Steph from the rest is his consistency in shooting from deep.
In fact, heading into Game 5 of the 2022 NBA Finals, Curry had 233 straight games where he made at least one three-pointer. However, the streak was broken after that game.
The Curry-led Warriors faced the Boston Celtics in a high-intensity 2022 NBA Finals. Evidently, Curry was expected to take over the series.
However, when it mattered most, the Baby-Faced Assassin went ice-cold from deep. In Game 5 of the series, Steph shot an abysmal 0-of-9 from beyond the arc. But did it bother the 4x NBA champion? No.
“I’m not afraid to go 0-for-whatever because I’m going to keep shooting and taking shots that you normally feel like you can make. And I’ve responded well when I’ve had games like that from the three-point line,” Curry said after the game.
He added: “But I’ve never — I don’t think I’ve ever been happier after a 0-for-whatever type of night, just knowing the context of the game.
“The other ways you tried to impact the game and the fact that, you know, you had four guys step up in meaningful ways to help us win offensively.”
Despite Curry’s awful night, what made him so happy? Well, it was the fact that the Dubs took a 3-2 lead in the finals behind a 104-94 Warriors win, despite Steph’s underwhelming shooting night.
“So all that stuff matters. Yeah, there’s a fire burning and I want to make shots, but the rest of it is about how we win the game, and we did that,” Curry stated.
Even though Steph’s streak of making a three-pointer in 233 games and 132 playoff games was broken, the Warriors star showed commendable confidence after the disastrous night.
The game still bothered him as he said: “Of course, it bothers me as a shooter. You want to impact the game that way. But thankfully that’s not the only thing that you do out there on the court.”
However, Curry trusted himself and issued a subtle warning for Game 6.
“Obviously, track record says I shoot the ball better the next game. Looking forward to that bounce-back,” Curry concluded.
Prior to Game 5 of the 2022 NBA Finals, Curry had five instances where he failed to make even a single shot from the three-point line. But after such games, Steph had shot at a sensational 46.2% from deep in the following contests.
Well, did history repeat itself? It sure did as Curry entered Game 6 with a hot hand. He finished the night with 34 points on a 6-of-11 shooting display from the three-point line.
In the process, he also led the Warriors to a 103-90 win over the Celtics as the Dubs won the 2022 NBA Championship after a hard-fought series.
