One Miami Heat player has stood out for head coach Erik Spoelstra.
Who would have thought that the Miami Heat would completely spiral down after trading away Jimmy Butler? Well, most likely everyone else apart from Heat president Pat Riley.
While Butler is enjoying great success with the Golden State Warriors, the Heat have continued to lose games.
Following their most recent defeat at the hands of the Detroit Pistons, the Heat are now on a nine-game losing streak. But there is still a silver lining for the team, at least that’s what head coach Erik Spoelstra believes.
Tyler Herro has been on a sensational run this season as he has elevated himself to the next level. Herro even earned the first NBA All-Star appearance of his career.
Coach Spo spoke fondly of Herro’s performance and his late-game heroics, despite the loss.
“Just shows you so much of his growth. He brought it all tonight, his whole package of skill set,” Spoelstra said of Herro.
He added: “Playing off the catch, playing off the dribble, playing off at the end of the clock like you just have to do something, playmaking, all of that.”
Herro finished the night with 29 points, 4 rebounds, and 3 assists in 37 minutes of playing time. But it was overshadowed by the Pistons’ win.
After Herro tied things up at 113-133 in the fourth quarter with just five seconds left on the clock, many expected the game to head to overtime.
However, Pistons’ Cade Cunningham had other thoughts and nailed the game-winning three-point shot. Herro shared his views on Cunningham’s clutch shot during the postgame conference.
“S___, it’s tough. You’re going through the highs and lows emotionally throughout a game. … Cade made a tough shot, banked it in. Great defense, he’s got to tip your hat, unfortunately, it’s another loss,” Herro said.
“It’s a tough loss but you got to take it on the chin, learn from it, and move on to the next one,” he added.
Considering the fact that the Heat have lost their ninth consecutive game, Herro’s defeated reaction makes sense.
The Heat have now dropped to a 29-40 record as the fans are likely waiting for this nightmarish season to be over sooner rather than later.
